It’s here! It’s finally here. For a number of years, I have dreamed of starting a blog in the name of mental health and (illness). With limited time and of course some days of pure laziness, I’ve taken the step and I could not be more excited.
Throughout my journey of studying Clinical Psychology, and experiencing mental health issues of my own, I began to realize how little resources are available out there in South Africa. Now before you scream at me with “SADAG” and “TARA” etc, I know all this, but I want to delve deeper into the issue, purely from my experience. But that’s for a conversation at another time, post, argument, debate, let’s see. But if it get’s us all talking, then that’s all that matters! 🙂
I would like to use this platform as a positive one. I am not a qualified Clinical psychologist as of yet, but that day will come once I have completed my studies and it will be the happiest day of my life. I have dreamed of being a psychologist since I was a little girl. In the meantime, with this blog, I want to be able to offer support and share articles that will inspire society and for those who are struggling with their very own mental illness’. I want this platform to boom with chatter and to explode with revelations. I want the world to see and know and realize that “It’s okay to not be okay.” In other words, let’s teach each other to ask for help and to lean on each other. Let’s respect each others’ journey’s and help where we can. Let’s change the stigma that is riddled within society.
“Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain, but it is more common and also more hard to bear. The frequent attempt to conceal mental pain increase the burden: It is easier to say “My tooth is aching” than to say “My heart is broken”. – C.S. Lewis
So this is it for now, I shall be back (I just said that out loud in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s voice) Haha!
